Networking as part of the platform

Networking is one of my strengths, particularly where it connects compute, storage and operations. I support VLANs, routing, switching, redundancy and networking dependencies in datacenter and VMware environments. With NSX, I first consider its role in the complete design.

From symptom to cause

An issue may be visible in one component while its cause sits elsewhere. I map the expected traffic path, check assumptions and work from observation to cause. Areas can include connectivity, MTU, routing, uplinks and the paths to storage and management.

A design that can be validated

For design and review, I make network paths, dependencies and failure scenarios explicit. This includes a practical configuration and suitable validation, such as connectivity or failover checks. The outcome fits the team delivering changes and maintaining the environment.

Understand the complete traffic flow

Networking is one of my strongest areas. I map traffic through an environment: from workloads to gateways, between hosts and storage, across sites and to services required by the platform. I assess switching, routing, VLANs and redundancy in that context.

From symptom to cause

A network issue can appear as a storage error, an unreachable application or a failed platform deployment. I work from the expected traffic and check where actual behaviour differs. Where relevant, I include name resolution, firewall rules, MTU, return paths and management service dependencies.
